Pitching Yeast

July 25, 2014 by Rick Morris:

Beer is basically the combination of 4 ingredients: water, barley malts, hops, and yeast.  The living organisms that do all the hard work in converting your sweet water from the mash (wort) into alcohol and CO2 to create the home brewed beer is yeast.  Without yeast you have no beer.  Yeast also imparts certain flavors in beer and accordingly there are plenty of different types.  Let's talk about pitching yeast (a fancy term that just means you pour yeast into the fermenting vessel with the wort).

What is Yeast?

Before we get into the process of pitching yeast, you may be asking yourself, "what is yeast?"
